I've been taking the blue ridge parkway home from asheville on my thursday drives. It takes a little longer but it's worth the views (and not getting stuck in construction). This past thursday i stopped near craggy gardens and hiked a few minutes out... found a rock and read from the new ORION magazine... a publication about nature, culture, and place (and so much more) It is my favorite magazine. There are two articles in particular that i really enjoyed. The Transition Initiative, by Jay Griffiths... and A Ruthless Elegance by Ann Pancake. Ohh Orion.... you're always so on point.

a letter from a dear friend makes me miss these places quite a bit. Not that penland isn't beautiful and amazing. Just different.

LEG MUSCLES, TAN LINES.

Dear friends Shane, Elspeth and Rush showed up at Penland today after many of miles biking from California back to the east coast.

If you'd like, gawk at these beautiful pictures from their adventure. Three artists on the road makes for some lovely visuals... check out the utah section.

A few photos from the 1th of July celebration here at Penland. Our photography class with Dan Estabrook won a trophy for our efforts in the parade. Steve (pictured in boxes) seems certainly to be annoying that little green haired girl. I also broke out the clarinet for the first time in parade since the 8th grade.
