"Coffee Table"

IMG_4130

I did this painting about a year ago for the Coffee House at Penland
and finally got around to getting a photograph of it. It is one of the biggest
paintings i've done in a long while and one of my favorite too...
and i like that coffee drinkers can use the table and enjoy it simultaneously.

Marianne and I decided we got 54 picas of snow... which for non letterpress nerds is about 9 inches.

"Maybe We Need That"

So for those of you who don't know i have quite the admiration for Conan O'Brien.
(That's right... I'm transitioning the ol' blog from Democracy Now to Conan O'Brien)
I love his show, i find it fabulous and last week while catching up with some old episodes I found this segment with Louis CK.

"Everything is Amazing... and Nobody is Happy"

Copenhagen

From Dec. 7 - Dec. 18 Democracy Now is broadcasting live from the Cop15 climate summit in Copenhagen.
They are the only folks broadcasting live from this pivotal summit and it's really quite interesting and well reported.
Listen Online or download the podcasts.

John Brown's Body.

Not the bad jam band... but the man.
John Brown.
I've been reading the epic poem John Brown's Body by Stephen Vincent Benet and am enamored with it.
I think growing up near Harper's Ferry (where the raid occurred) has really drawn me to the events and sparked a huge interest in John Brown.
I recommend this read for cozy winter days and a visit to Harper's Ferry if you are ever in that area. It's gorgeous in addition to being a fascinating historical site.

Gaviotas

There is no such thing as sustainable technology or economic development without sustainable human development to match. - Paolo Lugari
I was cleaning up my desk today and found this quote jotted down on a scrap piece of paper.
It is from the book Gaviotas - A Village to Reinvent the World - which is a fabulous little read that i recommend.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Big Crafty yesterday.
